This job involved constructing a new laminated frame around some existing doors and panels. The frame was constructed from Red Baltic which will be stained to match the existing timber colour. In the first pic you can see the process of laminating the semi circular head. It took 7 laminations to obtain the thickness required. These were bent around a former made from 2 sheets of MDF separated by wooden blocks. Clamps were used to hold the laminations in place whilst the glue set.
The frame was then sanded smooth and the ovolo section machined all around. The straight sections were mortise and tenon jointed together to for the sides. The cill was then machined to profile and M&T jointed to the frame. The existing doors date from around 1850-1870.
We think they originate from a hotel in Tamworth NSW.
